Clarice Anna Swanson was born on October 30, 1943, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Albert and Gladys (Haarstick) Swanson. She attended Country School #161 and graduated with the Pelican High School Class of 1961. In 1963, she met Larry Peterson at a dance, and they were married on May 1, 1965, in Fergus Falls. Together they raised two sons, Lee and Lowell.

Throughout her life, Clarice worked diligently in various roles. She was employed at the West Central Turkey Plant and later cooked at several restaurants as well as the Livestock Sale Barn. Her strong work ethic was matched by her deep compassion, especially for animals. Over the years, she cared for a wide variety of creatures including rabbits, pigs, peacocks, chickens, dogs, and cats. She had a special gift for nursing sick animals back to health.

Clarice also raised chickens and turkeys and spent many weekends butchering them with care. Her creativity shone through in her love for craft projects and baking, often sharing her homemade goods at the local farmer’s market.

Her life was marked by dedication—to her family, her work, and the animals she so lovingly tended. Clarice’s hardworking spirit and compassionate nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
