Nation’s Largest Food Drive Helps Millions of Americans
On the second Saturday in May — May 9, 2015 – the rural and city letter carriers in Otter Tail County will deliver much more than mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes. They will also collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers participating in the 23rd annual NALC National Food Drive – the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The donated food will be distributed directly to local food pantries.
United Way of Otter Tail County and the National Association of Letter Carriers are pleased to partner with this event and appreciate the support of the communities in Otter Tail County
According to the Postmaster General, Patrick R. Donahoe, last May US postal carriers around the nation collected 70.7 million pounds of food at a time when hunger remains a growing problem in the US. The total donations received since the food drive began in 1993 now stand at nearly 1.2 billion pounds of food.
Last year Otter Tail County Letter Carriers collected over 6000 pounds of food which went to help the 15% of children and families in Otter Tail County who live below the poverty level.
It’s so easy to make a donation: simply leave a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox on Saturday, May 9th, or drop off food at your local post office on May 8th – 11th.
