Kaddatz announces outdoor drawing and painting opportunity
FERGUS FALLS, MN – For those who have ever wanted to capture the great outdoors on canvas, the Kaddatz Galleries will hold plein air drawing and painting workshops in May and July. Plus, informal plein air groups will meet at different locations throughout the summer beginning Sun., May 15 at Phelps Mill.
“Plein air” is a French term meaning “open air” associated particularly with painting the outdoors.
Workshops: The Kaddatz will offer a May 14 plein air pastel workshop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., a May 21 plein air painting workshop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., both for adults; and a plein air workshop for kids and teens on July 14, 9 a.m.-1p.m. Cindy McDougall will lead the workshops. Registration fee for the adult workshops is $20, and the fee for the youth workshop is $10.
Demonstrations: Kaddatz artists will offer plein air demonstrations at three public events – Summerfest in June, Shop, Move and Groove Downtown in July and Concerts in the Park in August –
Informal groups: The Phelps Mill group will meet on County road 35 north of Underwood at 1 p.m. and then later move to Barnhard School at the corner of County Roads 1 and 35. A potluck will follow. Everyone will be responsible for their own equipment and supplies. This event is free and open to the public. These groups will meet at least once a month during the summer.
Kaddatz’s plein air activities are funded by a $5,870 grant from the Lakes Region Arts Council. Participants will have access to the Kaddatz’s drawing studio, equipment and materials, and selected works will be displayed during September in StudioK.
