Baby June is first baby of the New Year
at Tri-County Health Care
Wadena, MN – January 5, 2016 — The first baby of 2016 born at Tri‐County Health Care in Wadena is a girl
named June. Baby girl June Marie Schik was born on Friday, January 1, 2016 at 4:52 a.m. to Mandy and Dan Schik of
Butler. June weighed 7 lbs. and was 19 1/2 inches long at birth. Baby June was delivered by Laura DuChene, M.D. a Tri‐
County Health Care Family Medicine Physician.
Baby June was welcomed home by big sister Ruby (16 months) and grandparents Dan and Nadine Wegscheid, of
Bluffton; and Paul and Nancy Schik, of Butler. Big sister Ruby met her new sister in the hospital. “She (Ruby) saw the
baby and was super excited,” said Mandy. “She loved her!”
Mandy said her pregnancy was about as normal as could be expected. Mandy described it as “an easy pregnancy
and quick labor.” Mandy said they weren’t however necessarily expecting a New Year baby. Mandy and Dan spent New
Year’s Eve watching “the ball drop” and then went to the hospital for what they said was a wonderful conclusion to their
New Year’s Eve celebration. “It was a perfect way to usher in the New Year,” agreed both Dan and Mandy.
“I’m very glad we have Dr. DuChene as our physician. She is excellent,” said Mandy. “In fact everyone on the
staff is fantastic. We had phenomenal nurses.” Mandy added that the staff was always so caring and supportive. “If we
needed rest or we needed anything, the staff was always available and willing to help,” said Mandy.
Mandy and Dan didn’t know the gender of the baby before she was born. They both love the excitement of
surprises. “Our personalities both love surprises,” said Dan. “We don’t get many surprises in life and this is one of those
awesome surprises God gives us.”
