Watermelon Day 2010
Saturday, August 21st is the date set for Vining Watermelon Day! This marks the 38th year that this event has been celebrated. The day begins with a 5K/10K Run at 8:00. The website www.runforthemelon.com provides information and a form for registering.
A number of Arts and Craft vendors will be on hand to sell their wares beginning at 9:00. Entertainment begins at 10:00 at the tent on Lund Street and will feature T.J. Kline (Country Music), the Wee Wilie Band and the dancing "Runestone Rockettes of Alexandria.
A Children's Theatre group will present "Snow White at the Community Center at 11:30. Other opportunities available for children are pony rides, a petting zoo, and children's games and drawings which start at 1:00.
Bingo begins at 12:00 noon. Food options available through the day include a breakfast menu, barbecued beef sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, rommegrot, malted milk, popcorn and others. Free Watermelon will be served beginning at 11:00 a.m.
An evening parade begins at 7:00 p.m. and this is followed by raffle drawings, and a pie and ice cream social at the Community Center. Vining is happy to welcome people to their town for this event! Plan to attend.
