Minnesota state parks and state trails will host 38 candlelight events this winter, including an event at Glendalough State Park on Saturday, February 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. These popular family-friendly events provide an opportunity to ski on trails illuminated by the warm glow of candles. Park and trail visitors can warm up around a fire and roast marshmallows or enjoy a hot drink. Don't know how to ski? There will be a cross country ski class held at the trail center from 12:00pm-2:00pm. Register by calling the park.
People of all ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy the candlelit trails. The trail is 1.5 miles and suitable for beginner-level skiers. Call 218-864-0110 for information about equipment rental or checkout.
Before skiers hit the trails, they will need a Minnesota Ski Pass if they are 16 or older. Ski passes can be purchased at the park. Those who don't already have a Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit) can also purchase one at the park.
In case of bad weather, this event may be changed or canceled. For more information, including event details, weather updates and directions to the park, call 218-864-0110 or visit the Glendalough State Park page at www.mndnr.gov.
