Minnesota state parks and state trails will host 38 candlelight events this winter, including an event at Lake Carlos State Park on both February 3rd and 4th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. These popular family-friendly events provide an opportunity to ski, snowshoe or hike on trails illuminated by the warm glow of candles. Park visitors can warm up around a fire and roast marshmallows or enjoy free hot drinks and Subway sandwich samples provided by our sponsors Subway and the Bike and Fitness Company.

People of all ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy the candlelit trails. The event will be hiking only unless there is 8-10 inches of snow to allow for trail grooming and snowshoeing. The trail is 1 mile suitable for beginner-level skiers and snowshoers and an additional 1 mile trail for intermediate skiers. Call 320-852-7200 for information about equipment rental or checkout.

Before skiers hit the trails, they will need a Minnesota Ski Pass if they are 16 or older. Ski passes can be purchased at the park. Those who don't already have a Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit) can also purchase one at the park.

In case of bad weather, this event may be changed or canceled. For more information, including event details, weather updates and directions to the park call 320-852-7200 or visit the Lake Carlos State Park page at www.mndnr.gov.
