FRANSON HEMP PROVISION SIGNED INTO LAW
ST. PAUL – Rep. Mary Franson (R-Alexandria) issued the following statement subsequent to Governor Mark Dayton signing Senate File 5 into law. Senate File 5 is the special session Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources bill. This legislation – now law – contains a provision authored by Franson that legalizes the development of industrial hemp.
“Prior to this law being enacted, selling products made of hemp was already legal in Minnesota but cultivating it was not,” said Franson. “With this new law in effect, Minnesota will have the foundation and information necessary to develop new opportunities for hemp that will benefit our state – especially our rural economy.”
